WHITE MILLS, PA - Weather permitting, the Wayne County Historical Society’s recently rebuilt Spencer Steam Tractor will be displayed at the Thomas Kennedy Local History Festival on Saturday, September 25, at the Dorflinger Factory Museum in White Mills, PA.

The tractor made its modern debut at the Pleasant Mount July 4 parade and will be displayed outside the museum during the Kennedy Festival. The “self-propelled steam engine” was built by David Spencer and revealed to the public at Pleasant Mount on July 4, 1889. Members of the team that restored the tractor will be on hand to answer questions about the project.

Also featured at the Festival is Dr. S. Robert Powell, Director of the Carbondale Historical Society, who is an internationally recognized authority on the Delaware & Hudson and Pennsylvania Coal Company Gravity Railroads. At 10 a.m., Dr. Powell will give a presentation: “The PCC/D&H Hawley Basin: A Closer Look, with an Introduction to the Legal Battle between the D&H and the Pennsylvania Coal Company.”

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. guests are invited to browse a variety of displays presented by regional historical groups. The event is free, but visitors are expected to comply with Factory Museum rules, including face masks and social distancing.
