CAMPBELL HALL – Golfers from around the OCIAA side of Section IX visited the Stony Ford Golf Course on Tuesday morning to compete for a trip to Sectionals. Tri-Valley’s Gavin Clarke, and two golfers from Monticello (Chase McFarland and Joseph Russo) qualified and will continue their season today.
As has been the case all season, Clarke set the Sullivan County pace, scoring a 4th place 83. McFarland followed with an 89, and Russo shot a 92 to make the cut.
Thirty-two golfers made the cut from the OCIAA, and another 22 from the MHAL side will head to the Powelton Club in Newburgh for a 9 a.m. start. The top 20 and ties will continue onto the second and final round on Thursday, May 25 at McCann Memorial Golf Course in Poughkeepsie. After a 2-day aggregate total, the top nine will represent Section IX at the NYSPHSAA Boys State Golf Championship at Mark Twain Golf Club in Elmira, June 1-4.
Clarke will be golfing in the third group with Dan Conrad (Marlboro) and Oliver Katz (Spackenkill).
McFarland will golf with Caleb Hoag (Valley Central) and John Ryder (Marlboro).
Russo will be golfing in a group that includes Manny Markman (New Paltz) and Andre Greco (Cornwall).
The girls Section IX Championships also begin today at Apple Greens at 11a.m.
