LIVINGSTON MANOR – The Blue Devils and Wildcats became storm chasers earlier this week as they took on the Tuxedo Tornadoes on consecutive nights. Livingston Manor earned their first league win on Monday night, defeating Tuxedo 61 to 31, and Roscoe followed suit with a 68-44 win.
Daniel Tolbert paced the Wildcats offense with 30 of their 61 points, including an authoritative dunk in the third quarter.
“We all came out with a ton of energy for senior night,” LM Coach Charlie Hicks said. “Dan had a monster dunk in the third quarter that pumped up the crowd. It was a great way to cap off senior night.”
Dan got the offense going early, scoring 10 of his game-high 30 in the first quarter as the Wildcats took a 12-10 lead. A 14-8 second quarter gave the Wildcats a 26-18 lead at the break.
Livingston Manor continued releasing their offensive salvo in the second half, outscoring Tuxedo 10-8 and increasing their lead to ten after the third quarter, including Tolbert’s dunk that caused the crowd to erupt.
Tuxedo added an additional points to their total in the fourth, but Tolbert scored ten of his own, and received offensive support from five teammates as the Wildcats outscored the Tornadoes 25-8 in the final frame of the wire-to-wire league victory.
Roscoe Punches Ticket to Sectionals
After filling the stands to watch Livingston Manor and Tuxedo on Monday, the Roscoe Blue Devils headed down to Tuxedo to take on the Tornadoes on Tuesday afternoon.
On their home court, the storm brought by Tuxedo early on seemed to be too much for Roscoe. After Roscoe handily defeated them at home earlier in the season, the first half on Tuesday night was a much different story.
Tuxedo matched Roscoe’s 19 points in the first quarter to keep the teams tied, and Roscoe narrowly outscored their opponents 13-11 in the second quarter to take a 32-30 lead into the break.
Anthony Teipelke, who took a page out of Tolbert’s book with a dunk of his own, scored 12 first half points and was complimented by Aiden Johnston’s 15. Teipelke would finish with 26 while Johnston finished with 21.
Roscoe’s offense stayed hot in the second half, netting 18 points in each of the remaining quarters, while Tuxedo’s strong start sputtered and they only added 14 points to end the game. Roscoe held on for a 68-44 victory.
All seven of the Blue Devils at the game added points to the score, including a season high eight-point performance by Cameron Revicki.
The win sealed a playoff berth for the Blue Devils, and they have a road game against Eldred remaining on the schedule.
“Tuxedo hit six threes in the first half, but we had better closeouts and on-ball defense in the second,” Coach Mike Hill said after the win. “It felt good to put up that many points.”
