SULLIVAN COUNTY —Local 2001 of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) of America,  AFL-CIO has endorsed Republican Lou Ingrassia as its candidate for the 100th Assembly District.

The NY-100 consists of Middletown and Wallkill in Orange County and the majority  of Sullivan County. Ingrassia is a lifelong Wallkill resident and has been a member of the Town’s Republican committee for over 25 years.

“We look forward to working with Mr. Ingrassia to protect the rights of hard-working families and to promote the ideals of the labor movement,” said Patrick Howard, President of TWU Local 2001. “We recognize that you maintain and promote these same values, and we will assist you in these efforts.”

The TWU of America, AFL-CIO represents more than 150,000 members across the airline, railroad, and transit, university, utility and service sectors. It has been on the front lines of moving the American economy forward, keeping the traveling public safe and offering working people a voice on the job since 1934.

TWU has several divisions: Air, Railroad, Transit, Universities, Utilities and Services and represents more than 100 autonomous locals with members from across the U.S.

“I’m grateful for the support of the TWU,” Ingrassia said. “I have seen firsthand the important role that unions play in representing the collective interests of employees. I am proud to stand with them as we fight for more jobs, higher wages, and better benefits for our union workers and their families.”

Ingrassia, the Town of Wallkill’s Department of Public Works (DPW) Commissioner, has deep-seated roots in the NY-100 and is well-liked and respected by his peers. He has been a volunteer firefighter for 42 years and is an elected Fire Commissioner for the Howells Fire District. Ingrassia is a past president of the Orange County Highway Superintendents Association, a Board Member of the Orange County Water Authority and Co-Director of the Town of Wallkill Emergency Management Division.

He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Hudson Valley Honor Flight and has long advocated for veterans in the community.
