FREMONT — All six Sullivan County boys golf teams faced off on May 6 at Roscoe Mountain Club. The groups played the Front 9, a Par-36 course for the round. Tri-Valley’s Misha Khodakovski was the individual champion after winning a 1-hole playoff against his teammate Brandon Huggler, as Tri-Valley went on to win the team championship as well.
The Front 9 at Roscoe Mountain Club can be a bit daunting, with some long par-5s, water and fast-moving greens that add complexity to the course.
Khodakovski got off to a bit of a slow start, getting a seven and a six on the first two holes. Before long, he settled in needing just 30 strokes for the remaining seven holes.
Brandon Huggler, who also shot a 43 but lost the 1-hole playoff, worked his way through a solid round, including a par on the ninth hole.
Liberty’s leading golfer, Owen Moore, scored a 44, tying Sullivan West’s John Adams.
Behind them, Monticello’s Chase McFarland and Livingston Manor’s Gavin Thomas each recorded a 45 on Monday afternoon.
The ninth hole seemed to be a strong one for many of the top golfers of the day, with none needing more than four strokes to sink the ball into the cup.
As far as team scores go, Tri-Valley’s 194 was a match best. The Bears were followed by Liberty (226), Sullivan West (230) and Monticello (235). Fallsburg and Livingston Manor did not have enough golfers to qualify for the team scoring.
The winning team, Tri-Valley was led by Khodakovski and Huggler’s 43s. Matt Fanslau shot a 53 and Jai Patel shot a 55 to round out the group.
Liberty was led by Owen Moore (44) with complimentary performances by Jeremy Simon (52), Jake Cross (60) and Enrique Mercado (70).
John Adams was the leading golfer for Sullivan West with a 44. Rally Cruz (55), Sebastian Berman (62) and Sean Gabel (69) filled out the rest of the Bulldogs’ team scorecard.
For Monticello, it was Chase McFarland at the top with a 45. Behind him, Zachary Roosa (55), Josh Miller (58) and Chris Pinto-Lemus (77) filled out the team scoring.
Sectionals for the boys’ golfers took place on Monday morning, but the final scores weren’t available by press time.
