Two Major Events to Highlight Tourism and Local Cuisine in the Sullivan Catskills

Posted

In two weeks, we will mark National Travel and Tourism Week, an annual event that is celebrated across the United States, this year from May 7-13. This week is dedicated to promoting the importance of travel and tourism to the country’s economy, culture, and overall well-being.

In the Sullivan Catskills, National Travel and Tourism Week is a particularly significant event, as it provides an opportunity to showcase our region’s robust tourism industry. In 2021, tourism spending in the Sullivan Catskills was $709.6 million, which demonstrates an increase of 122% over 2019 and 66% over 2020. Were it not for tourism, every household would pay an additional $2,943 in taxes to maintain current levels of services.

We will kick off the week with our annual Brochure Exchange, sponsored by Bold Gold Media. This is a chance for member businesses to network and swap their promotional materials. It will be held at the parking lot of the SCVA Visitor’s Center at 15 Sullivan Ave., Liberty, NY.

We will enjoy delicious catering from Mr. Willy’s as you pop your trunk and meet other business owners and members, tailgate style. If you’re not a member already, join today! Call the SCVA at 845-747-4449 to join or to register for the event.

Overall, National Travel and Tourism Week is an important event for Sullivan Catskills and other regions across the United States. It provides a platform to showcase the unique attractions, cultural heritage, and natural beauty that make each region special.

By promoting travel and tourism, we can help support local businesses, create jobs, and foster a greater appreciation for the diverse communities and landscapes that make up our country.

We here at the SCVA are also busy getting ready for Catskill Cuisine, a food festival in collaboration with Bethel Woods and sponsored by Resorts World Catskills.

It will be held on May 13 at Bethel Woods, featuring acclaimed chefs, tastings, demonstrations, live music, a marketplace, kids’ zone, and more! General admission tickets are available at www.catskill-cuisine.com.

This will be the first of what will become an annual event, highlighting our distinct Catskill-icious cuisine. It’s a chance to showcase our local chefs, restaurants, producers, agriculture, and craft beverage makers.

It will bring visitors, music, and cuisine together, while allowing local culinary experts to shine and be inspired by other accomplished American chefs.

We are very excited about this landmark event and hope you will join us.
