Verl Albert Ringgenberg, 84 of Hortonville, NY a retired United States Navy Master Chief Petty Officer, and a retired Dairy Farmer died on Sunday June 5th, 2022 at Garnet Medical Center Middletown, NY.  Son of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Wiehrauch) Ringgenberg, Verl was born April 10th, 1938 in Columbia, South Dakota.  He was a resident of Hortonville for 47 years.

Verl was a member of the American Legion, was a past Commander of Allen Milk Post 7276 Veterans of Foreign Wars Long Eddy, Past Commander of the Sullivan County VFW, VFW District Two Commander (2007-2008) and VFW National Deputy of Chief of Staff (2001-2002).  He was a former town of Delaware Assessor for 8 years, and a former Hortonville Volunteer Firefighter for 35 years, including 16 years as Secretary and Treasurer.

Verl participated in high school football, band, all-state chorus and South Dakota National Guard during his Junior and Senior years.  He was the President of the PTA and a Boy Scout leader while he was stationed in Newport, RI.  Verl was an avid hunter and ice fisherman.  He was a dedicated service member that continued his love for his country in serving the American Legion and VFW.  Verl also enjoyed his weekly poker games in the old milk house. 

Verl is survived by his wife of 64 years Betty Jane Ringgenberg; daughters Lori Tyler of Syracuse, Rhonda Houghtaling of Callicoon, Christine Ringgenberg of New Windsor; brothers Allen Ringgenberg of Aberdeen, SD, Dean Ringgenberg of Columbia, SD; Dale Ringgenberg of Groton,SD; and Glen Ringgenberg of Columbia, SD; sisters Joyce Beckler of Aberdeen, SD, Loreen Cassidy of Keystone, SD, Margorie Grover of VA.  Verl was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Gertrude Ringgenberg, his brother Cecil Ringgenberg, and his sons David Ringgenberg and Roger Ringgenberg.

Friends may call on Sunday June 12th, 2022 from 5pm-8pm at Stewart Murphy Funeral Home located at 34 Upper Main Street Callicoon, NY.  Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct services at 7PM.  Firematic services will be held at 7:30 PM.  The funeral service will be held on Monday June 13th 2022 at 2PM at the Funeral Home.  The Reverend Shannon Dee Bailey will officiate.  Burial will take place after the service at the Hortonville Cemetery.
