Veterinary hospital opens in Narrowsburg

NARROWSBURG - The former Jeff Bank building in Narrowsburg is now the new home to the Narrowsburg Veterinary Hospital.

After practicing for over 25 years in Northern New Jersey, veterinary practitioner Dr. Neil Hess decided to sell his practice in 2018, and later made a plan to set up shop in Narrowsburg permanently after he and his wife Leslie bought what they thought would be their second home in 2021.

Dr. Hess, who originally wanted to work with flora rather than fauna, obtained his bachelor’s degree from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. After a helpful nudge from his mother upon his graduation, Dr. Hess decided to pursue his medical degree in Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Boston.

When he and his family moved to the area, Dr. Hess immediately noticed the need for a local Veterinary Hospital so when they noticed the Jeff Bank for sale they immediately leapt for the opportunity, and on May 1, the Narrowsburg Veterinary Hospital opened their doors. “We have been packed full since the day we opened,” said Dr. Hess.

Since the pandemic pet ownership has proven to have significantly increased.

“People are alone more,” Leslie Hess said. “Many people have turned to their pets, there is a special trust between a pet and a human.”

Ready to help

Narrowburg Veterinary is a “full-service animal hospital,” Dr. Hess clarifies. “We diagnose and treat disease.”

The hospital specializes in small animals, mostly just dogs and cats, and is open on weekends.

Dr. Hess and his team offer services varying from teeth cleanings to annual vet check-ups and simple surgeries. However, The Narrowsburg Veterinary Hospital is not an emergency practice and does not offer 24-hour care.

The Narrowsburg Veterinary Hospital is located at 155 Kirks Road in Narrowsburg and is open Monday, Thursday, and Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to 2pm, and Sunday 10am to 2pm.
