Virus teaching us humility

Adriana Belmonte, Senior Editor and Reporter for Yahoo News is covering politics and health care coverage and writes that, “the decline in daily COVID cases and hospitalization is good news for the U.S., though health experts are warning to practice caution.”

Also Tammy Hung, a writer and author at NTD TV News, writes that “a South African study led by researchers at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital found that the Omicron outbreak may be signaling the end of the acute pandemic phase of COVID 19, with the endemic phase following suit.”

Belmonte writes that the COVID 19 cases have decreased by 66% while the hospitalization rate has dropped by 40%, according to data from the New York Times.

Some government leaders, according to Belmonte, “have lifted restrictions like mask mandates from indoor businesses,” but this columnist while shopping in a large retail store last week saw many of the shoppers still wearing masks.

Belmonte wrote quoting Dr. Jay Schnitzer, chief medical officer at MITRE, a nonprofit that operates federally funded research, said, “my word of caution is that the virus is teaching us humility every single turn of events over the past two years and we’ve got to be a little humble about our projections again today.”

Tammy Hung in what he wrote, noted, “while the study examined patient data from the Steve Biko Academic Hospital Complex, the findings were comparable to city-wide cases and admissions from all public and private hospitals.”

Dr. Schnitzer’s added remarks, said, “my advice is that even if local politicians have removed mask mandates, people should still be cautious on an individual level through behaviors like social distancing, avoiding crowds and practicing good hygiene.”

The virus has indeed taught us all humility…be safe out there.
