Voting does matter!

To the editor:

This is in response to the Lifelines column entitled “Voting Matters” which ran on Friday, May 21 in the Democrat. I agree, elections matter. Some of the results of the left's victory are:

1. Our open southern border has produced illegal immigrants pouring into our country by the thousands. Which could leave us vulnerable to terrorism or the Coronavirus. In addition, more drugs are crossing the border than any other time in our history.

2. When the Keystone pipeline closed, gasoline prices rose and we are no longer energy independent, in addition to the many people who lost their jobs. Just recently our President gave only “lip” service to the dangerous Russian pipeline to Germany.

3. Our foreign policy under Donald Trump, in regard to the Middle East, was in good condition. Sanctions were in place and now it seems the Biden administration is ignoring Iran completely. This has resulted in the renewal of hostility between Israel and Palestine.

4. Wages and our economy improved greatly from 2016 to 2019 then along came the Coronavirus that caused a breakdown. Now we are looking forward to a serious inflation problem as a result of soaring gasoline prices. Because of higher gasoline prices, every item purchased in our supermarkets will get higher.

5. Biden's new tax plan and a rise in the minimum wage will cause widespread unemployment and place a heavy burden on middle class taxpayers and their children and grandchildren.

Lifelines author Ms. Werner's last line in her column was “The bottom line is this: Voting still matters.”

My last line is this: “The bottom line is this: Legal voting still matters.”
