Thank you for your editorial of Feb.18 and your attention to NYSEG. I have received two monthly bills, one for $635.55 and one for $881.75. It is my understanding that the people who govern us, who you are saying we should contact, gave them the go ahead to raise prices. To say that I am outraged is an understatement. How is anyone expected to continue to pay these kinds of bills?
I have subscribed to The Democrat for many years. While I am heartsick about how copies have shrunk due to probably a decrease in advertisers AND a smaller amount of subscribers, I am truly thankful for the strong will that is obvious in its continuing to report the news twice/wk. People, YOU MUST WAKE UP to the importance of a local newspaper. While you can tune in to many places to get the national news, there are few places to get YOUR LOCAL news. Sometimes it is even more important to be in touch with what is happening to you right here.
This paper has printed many letters from people who supported Trump. I would love to know how they feel now about what is happening to our country. Who of them is willing to admit that they are supportive of our move toward becoming an ally of Russia? As a person who grew up in the Cold War, there is NO WAY to defend the United States of America serving up the Ukraine to a monster. What do they think now of Musk and Bannon raising their arms in a “Seig Heil” salute? What about the people that are being fired without cause, leaving them to fend for themselves? Who do you think is going to pay for this craziness? We suffered from a drought this year. What if a hunter dropped a cigarette into the woods, or someone flicked a lit one out of their car window? Do we have enough volunteer firefighters or would we wind up like California? Is it appropriate for our country to not hire enough Federal firefighters in time for their season? Do you care about other people of your own country or just about your own greed, selfishness and hatred?
When will you care? When will you get an electric bill like mine, or when will you lose your Medicare or your Social Security? At least protest our country turning back to racist times on Friday, Feb. 28th. DON’T BUY ANYTHING.
