HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Creative Arts Council kicks off its 56th year with a lineup of some old favorites and  introducing some new and exciting groups as well. This series of concerts begins in Honesdale’s Central Park on Monday, June 12th at 7 p.m. Bring a chair, enjoy some ice cream and sit back to enjoy an evening of live music.

On June 12th the perennial favorites, the Northeasters Barbershop Chorus, will be joined by the United Methodist Bell Choir. A group that is new to the Park is the Lennoxville Community Band bringing some traditional marches as well as classical favorites on Thursday June 15th. The Wayne Choralaires follow on June 19th. Come and enjoy the singing of friends and family. Scranton’s own Clarence Spady will bring down the house on Thursday, June 22nd. Radio Replay a new local group performs on June 26th followed on the 29th by a group that will have you up and dancing, Lighten Up.

Saturday, July 1st will be Honesdale’s celebration of our nation’s independence. The festivities begin at 6:30 with The Doug Smith Band followed by the Crystal Band of Scranton. While enjoying the music grab a bite to eat from a selection of cheese steaks, cannolis, crepes, fried Oreos, funnel cakes and of course, home made ice cream. Novelty vendors will offer a range of fun light up items and games. The fireworks, sponsored by the Greater Honesdale Partnership will begin to light up the night at approximately 9:30 p.m. In case of rain the festivities will be moved to Friday, July 7th.

The season continues on Thursday, July 6th with Moss Henry and the Brophytes, brought back by popular demand after their premier with WCCAC last year. Anyone who went to a prom back in the day enjoyed music by the Poets. Two former members of that group, The Luongo Brothers, will bring back the memories on Monday, July 10th. For lovers of real jazz,  the Gypsy Jazz Quintet will fill the bill on Thursday, July 13th.

Ekat has lots of friends, including those in the band Ekat and Friends. Her beautiful voice will grace the stage on Monday, July 17th. Thursday, July 20, features the Teddy Young Blues Band.  The name Fabulous 45’s says it all. Those records with the big hole in the middle brought rock and roll to many a home.  Get up and dance to those memories on Monday, July 24th.

The biggest crowd of all the summer concerts will gather on Thursday, July 27th for the Old Time Fiddlers. Because of the anticipated size of the audience, instead of moving inside in case of rain, the concert will move to Monday, July 31st.

In case of inclement weather listen to 95.3FM or 105.3FM or check out the WCCAC’s webpage, www.honesdaleparkevents.org or check us out on Facebook – Wayne Co. Creative Arts Council.

The concerts are partially funded by donations from local folks and businesses, a grant from the Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau and by a free will collection at each concert.
