What a great service to the community

The past year has been very challenging for many of us. Throughout the year we have seen many individuals rise above the challenges to make a difference in peoples lives.

I believe that my wife and I have found one of these heroes. His name is Dr. Gene Burns, the owner and pharmacist at Riverside Remedies in Callicoon, NY.

Gene used his personal resources and time to complete the state health mandates and requirements that enabled him to distribute the corona virus vaccine. Once qualified, he was able to procure vaccine and began his campaign to help as many people as possible.

He established a website which was easy to use, yet provided much-needed information. For a long time, thanks to his efforts, his pharmacy was the only place in Sullivan County where vaccines were available.

We received our second and final shot on Saturday at the Youth Center. As was the case with the initial vaccination, we found the entire process to be well planned and very efficient. His emails provided explicit instructions and left nothing to question.

A special thanks to his staff who were always very courteous and knowledgeable, to the board of directors at Grover Hermann Hall, to the nurses who gave the shots, and to the many volunteers who helped to make this effort a huge success.

Finally, thank you Gene for caring. You have saved countless lives and made people in your community feel much safer. You are a hero to your community.
