William “Bill” John Jones

William “Bill” John Jones, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, died peacefully in his home on March 2, 2023. Bill had battled prostate cancer fiercely for several years. Bill was always one to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and was a wealth of knowledge to his loved ones. He will be greatly missed by his family and his community.

Bill was born to John and Jean Jones of Liberty, NY on January 3, 1944. Bill would go on to serve in the Army upon completion of high school. After his time serving this country, he would go on to be a lineman for The New York State Electric Company (NYSEG) for 35 years. Bill was a proud member of the Panther Mountain Hunting Club and American Legion Post 289 out of Hancock, NY. Bill loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends and family. He was also an accomplished gunsmith. 

Bill would marry the first love of his life Margaret (Ostrowsky) Jones on July 22, 1967. They went on to have his first daughter, Jennifer (Jones) Siegler. Bill was predeceased by Margaret on June 30, 1982. He would go on to marry the second love of his life Tammy (Ehlers) Jones on March 21, 1992. They would go on to have his second daughter, Colleen Jones. Bill was predeceased by Tammy on April 15, 2007. Bill was not only a devoted husband, he dedicated his life to caring for his two daughters and two grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer and Colleen, his son-in-law James Darling, his grandchildren Jayden Siegler and William Siegler, his sister Beverly (Jones) Kavlesky and her husband Andrew Kavlesky, and his cousin Carol Lee (Rosenthal) Nespole and her husband James Nespole. He is also survived by countless nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 10AM to 12 Noon in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.  Firematic services conducted by the Neversink Fire Dept. will be held at 12 Noon in the funeral home; followed by funeral services officiated by The Rev. Bridgette LeConey.  Burial will be in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville, NY.

All are welcome to a gathering to honor Bill, complete with refreshments at the Neversink Fire Department (7486 St Route 55 Neversink, NY 12765) following the burial service.
