Wilson, Nystrom winners of Long Beards' Youth Hunt

SULLIVAN COUNTY -- The Sullivan County Long Beards held their annual Youth Hunt contest on October 10-12, and had eight entries. Many of these youngsters were first time hinters and all took impressive bucks.

Scores were calculated by adding the number of points, left and right antler lengths, the deer's weight and inside width at the widest point of the rack.

The Long Beards thanked the Sportsmen's Den (Callicoon), Shewolf Taxidermy (Roscoe), Fur, Fin and Feather (Livingston Manor) and the Neversink General Store (Neversink) for their support in making the contest a success and congratulated all participants.

First place winner Kayla Wilson took a 9-point, 162.4-lb deer with a rack score of 71 for a total of 233.4 . She harvested the buck in Callicoon while hunting with her dad. This was Kayla's first deer. The deer was scored by Sportsmens Den in Callicoon. Kayla chose the 6.5 Creedmoor prize.

Second place went to Austin Nystrom, with his 10 point, 172.6 lb. deer with a rack score of 59.5 for a total of 232.1. He was hunting with his Uncle John in Callicoon. This was Austin's first deer. The deer was scored by Sportsmens Den in Callicoon. Austin will receive a free shoulder mount from Shewolf Taxidermy in Roscoe.
