Firefighters battle blaze in Monticello

THOMPSON -- At 2:58 a.m. Monday morning, the Monticello Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Bard Road behind the Walmart Complex in the Town of Thompson. Enroute to the call, Sullivan County 911 reported several calls and Engine 22-14 viewed a large volume of fire in that vicinity.

On arrival at 3:03 a.m., Engine 22-14 reported several structures on fire and requested a second alarm and dispatch for tankers to the scene.

Tankers, engines and manpower were dispatched from Rock Hill, Liberty, Hurleyville, White Lake, Forestburgh, Kauneonga Lake, Swan Lake, Lake Huntington, Wurtsboro, Fallsburg, Smallwood, Woodridge, Loch Sheldrake and Sparrowbush to the scene.

Port Jervis Fire Department was on standby in Monticello's station, Circleville Fire Department was on standby for Rock Hill, Woodbourne Fire Department on standby in Fallsburg and Jeffersonville Fire Department on standby for the Town of Bethel.

Monticello was assisted at the scene by Sullivan County Bureau of Fire and Fire Investigators, New York State Police, Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, Monticello Police Department, Mobilemedic EMS, Hatzolah EMS and New York State Electric and Gas for a power cut. No injuries were reported.

According to the Monticello Fire Department, approximately five seasonal type structures were completely destroyed.
