Sanford “Sandy” Lazarowics of Monticello, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Garnett Health Medical Center – Catskills (with Howie by his side). The son of the late Louis and Bertha (Guth) Lazarowics, he was born on February 18, 1927, in Monticello, NY.

We remember him for his kindness and loyalty to the many, many lives he touched. He treasured lifelong personal and business friendships, of which there were many. He was extremely compassionate and generous to those in need. He will be missed.

He is survived by a niece Louisa Betts of NC, several cousins and great nephews and an abundance of friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 plus years, Adelle (Lipinski) Lazarowics (2011), his daughter Laura Lazarowics (2008), brother Julius Lazarowics and niece Josephine Citrin.

Upon graduating from Monticello High School in 1945, he enlisted in the Army and served during WWII. After discharge he graduated Colombia School of Pharmacy and worked for Gusar’s Pharmacy in Monticello for several years. He owned and operated AT Distributors with his brother, Sandels Restaurant & Mall Cleaners, and finally retiring from Kraft Foods after many years. Sandy was an active member of American Legion Post #73 and Monticello Seniors. He enjoyed bowling and golfing well into his 90s as well as dabbling in the stock market.

Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9 from 2:00 to 5:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.  Interment of his ashes with military honors will be held on Friday, May 10 at 11am at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Being a true believer of helping others, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County Veterans Coalition, PO Box 1527, Monticello, NY 12701 or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com.
