LIBERTY – The rain held up for much of the day on Saturday, September 26, a welcome relief for the runners and walkers who attended the 4th Annual Dylan Dainack 5K.
The turnout was about the same as last year’s race, drawing in participants from all over the county. Co-organizer Danielle D’Agata says she is “Hoping to bring awareness to addiction and recovery and let people know there is help in the community. Hope Not Handcuffs is a helping hand to anyone who needs it.”
The Liberty Police Department has partnered with Hope Not Handcuffs to provide a pre-arrest diversion and treatment program for individuals struggling with substance use disorder. Liberty Police Chief Steven D’Agata addressed the crowd to share his thoughts about his former colleague, Officer Dylan Dainack, emphasizing the significance of the Hope Not Handcuffs initiative.
Officer Dylan Dainack lost his battle with addiction in 2017, and this race was started to bring awareness and help break the stigma, so no one suffers in silence.
This year, the race raised over $4,000, with the proceeds going directly to Hope Not Handcuffs.
