Mustered on January 15, 1967, the Allan Milk Memorial Post No. 7276 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars has a long and proud history.
And on Tuesday, November 11, at 11 a.m. Post Commander Dr. Lauren Roman welcomed the nearly 50 veterans and their families to its annual Veterans Day Service at the Fellowship Hall at St. Patrick’s Church in Long Eddy.
“I would like to thank all of you who have worn the uniform and helped carry on that legacy,” Commander Roman said.
Father John Kennady blessed the gathering, “We lift up our hearts in gratitude to all those who have served.”
Sr. Vice Commander Bruce Pesci thanked all those for coming and said, “Allan was a brave man, and I would like to thank his family for all they have done for this Post through the years.”
Army Specialist Allan Milk made the ultimate sacrifice for his country during the Vietnam War, killed in action in Bihn Dihn Province, South Vietnam, on November 1, 1966, just six months shy of his 21st birthday.
In Allan Milk’s remem-brance the VFW Post as well as the Basket viaduct bridge were named in his honor.
