Narrowsburg — Filmmaker Tina Spangler invites you to rediscover Fanny Palmer, a 19th-century artist and overlooked pioneer of American lithography whose work helped shape how generations imagined the American landscape. Presented in partnership with Moonriver Interiors and the Narrowsburg Union—whose ongoing support of local artists and storytellers made this exhibit possible—American Seasons: The Art of Fanny Palmer brings Palmer’s world back into view.

Palmer created hundreds of prints for the beloved Victorian printmakers Currier & Ives, capturing scenes of everyday life, rural landscapes, and seasonal beauty. The exhibit features original Palmer lithographs from the 1850s and 1860s, everyday artifacts showing how her art endured in daily life, and a winter village installation inspired by her drawings of New York’s rolling hills, farms, and streams.

Presented in collaboration with Moonriver Interiors, the show also includes a curated selection of Fanny Palmer and Currier & Ives works, including the Fanny Palmer: The Life and Art of a Currier & Ives Artist coffee table book. Proceeds from sales support the completion of Spangler’s upcoming documentary about the artist. American Seasons will be open for viewing during Moonriver Interiors’ store hours, five days a week, Fridays through Tuesdays.

A special reception will be held on Friday, December 5, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, featuring remarks by curator and filmmaker Tina Spangler, who will discuss Palmer’s art and influence and screen a sneak peek from her non-fiction film.

“I’ve been immersed in Fanny Palmer’s world for a couple of years now—researching, filming, and getting to know her through her art,” said filmmaker and curator Tina Spangler. “This show is a chance to share that passion with my own community here in Narrowsburg, which looks so much like the landscapes she loved to draw. The holiday season feels like the perfect time to celebrate the changing seasons she captured so beautifully. It’s been a real pleasure putting this together with Moonriver Interiors and the Narrowsburg Union. The Union has been such a supportive partner, providing space and encouragement every step of the way.”

American Seasons: The Art of Fanny Palmer spotlights an artist overlooked for generations — until now.

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support from the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
