Following their 4-1 Section IX win over Chapel Field, the Eldred Yellowjackets softball team is one step closer to States. Giada Donato pitched a CG, 2 hits 1 run, 6 SO’s. Sydney Furler went 2-3- 2b, RS, 2 SB. Olivia Gonzalez was 2-4- 2b, 2 RBI, Maddison Gaeta was 1-3 RBI and Jillian Smith 1-2 RBI.
Tomorrow the Yellowjackets face off against Argyle Central, at 12 noon at Monroe-Woodbury High School. Should the Lady Yellowjackets advance, they will face the winner of the Crown Point vs Hammond Central game.
The Eldred boys are headed to Saugerties to take on the 15-2 Smithtown Knights. Rainy weather put a damper on many local games that had to be canceled so that made the Yellowjackets’ game calendar shorter than expected.
Some key performers to watch for Eldred are shortstop Mason Tice with a 345 avg, 2 HR’s, 7 RBI, and 16 SB’s in 11 games. Freshman Evan Zgordek with a 280 avg , 4 RBI, 2 doubles, Austin Spannos a sophomore with a 333 avg, 4 RBI, 8 SB’s and Jake Card, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 4 SB’s in 11 games. With a win over the Knights, the Yellowjackets will advance to take on the winner of the Parishville-Hopkinton North Warren Central game on June 7.
