BETHEL – Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival, marked a landmark moment during its 20th anniversary year, officially welcoming its 5 millionth visitor through the gates during the Tedeschi Trucks Band concert on Monday, August 31.
The milestone adds another memorable chapter to Bethel Woods’ two decades of welcoming people from around the world to experience the music, history and legacy of the iconic site.
To mark the occasion, Bethel Woods surprised the milestone guest—Melissa Homer of Honesdale, PA—with an upgraded concert experience, a commemorative “Visitor #5,000,000” sash and a celebratory confetti cannon moment. Homer also received the opportunity to attend 20 future shows of her choosing at Bethel Woods.
“Last night was one of the coolest, most meaningful nights of my life. I love music. I’ve seen close to 1,000 shows—all kinds of genres. What I’ve found out through those shows is that music is love. It brings people together, fills our hearts with happiness, and reminds us that love connects us all,” Homer said. “At a show at Bethel, when you’re dancing and singing, or simply just watching and listening, nothing else matters… just the love. Thank you for bringing so much goodness into the world, and for the 20 shows I’ll be able to add to my list!”
This milestone celebrates the millions of guests who have walked through Bethel Woods’ gates since the cultural center opened on the grounds of the historic Woodstock festival site, each becoming part of the story of this place. From concerts and festivals to Museum visits, educational programs and community events, Bethel Woods continues to welcome people from around the world to experience music, culture, history and the enduring spirit of Woodstock.
“Reaching five million visitors is an incredible milestone, and creating experiences that people will remember for years to come is at the heart of what we do,” said Eric Frances, CEO of Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. “Our team works hard every day to make Bethel Woods a place where people can come together, make memories and feel connected through music and the history of this special site. We’re thrilled to celebrate this moment with Melissa and congratulate her on being our 5 millionth visitor. We hope these 20 future shows give her many more unforgettable memories at Bethel Woods.”
As Bethel Woods looks ahead to its next 20 years, the organization is excited to welcome millions more visitors in the years to come.
