Bulldogs topple the Blue Devils: Head Coach Ron Bauer makes history

LAKE HUNTINGTON – On an unexpectedly hot Saturday afternoon the Sullivan West Bulldogs squared off in a non-league game against the Ellenville Blue Devils. Sullivan West won the game handily, relying on their formula from last year, namely Alec Hubert. Hubert ran for five touchdowns and rushed for over 200 yards in the Bulldogs 51 to 14 win.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Alec Hubert’s performance, in addition to his impressive quickness and speed, is his exceptional vision on the field.

He found the open space, bouncing out of congestion and to the edge, and maneuver around the corner. At other times he left his opponents flat footed as he crosses the field to daylight and the endzone.

He [Hubert] also played well on the other side of the ball, where he, defensive standout Jesse Milk and the rest of the Bulldogs pack kept Ellenville bottled up all afternoon. The only Blue Devils to break through was, Xavior Lasanta who caught a 30-yard touchdown pass in the first half, and Dyron Laurel who ran hard all day, getting into the endzone in the second half.

But it was Sullivan West’s day on the field. In addition to Hubert’s scoring, Todd Walters, Jesse Milk, and Paul Nunnari scored touchdowns, and Samuel Lieberman, Seamus Johnston and Dylan Lockwood all contributed extra points.

Ellenville coach Dan Cavanagh said of his team, “I’m proud of coaching this team, I’m proud of their effort. We’re playing through a lot of injuries, but you still have to go out and play football. The guys gave it their all...the score wasn’t in our favor but what I’m looking for is pride and effort, be competitive and to try to get out of the game healthy.”

Sullivan West coach Justin Diehl said, “We have a very good team; we’re aggressive to the ball, we play our positions well, but we still have things to clean up. We were sloppy in the first quarter, just have to work on our execution. Ellenville’s a good team, for us to put up good numbers against them is a confidence builder going into division play.” With this win, veteran Head Coach Ron Bauer now has the most wins of any coach in Section IX history with 216 victories!!
