A festive crowd gathered in the heart of the hamlet as Callicoon kicked off the holiday season with the annual tree lighting on Saturday night, hosted by the Callicoon Business Association at the Callicoon Depot.

The evening started with attendees warming up by the fire while indulging in hot cocoa and complimentary s’mores. Holiday tunes performed by the Sullivan West Select Choir kept the crowd entertained as they awaited the main attractions: A visit from Santa Claus followed by the lighting of the tree, bathing Main Street in a soft, warm holiday glow of twinkling lights.

Beyond the merriment, the event had a charitable spirit. Attendees were encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys for the Sullivan West Elementary School PTSO Holiday Toy Drive, supporting local families in need this season.

Local shops and eateries also joined in with many staying open late to welcome holiday-goers, offering an early opportunity to start holiday shopping and support small businesses for “Small Business Saturday.”

Saturday night’s tree lighting was a gentle reminder of the community spirit that defines Callicoon.
