MONGAUP VALLEY –– In a Collins late matchup, the Callicoon Pantry struggled through some early challenges but emerged with a narrow victory over the We Care Bears by the score of 15 to 11.
The Pantry had some inconsistent defensive play early, maybe because of the cool weather and the amount of time they had to wait for the first game to end. They eventually warmed up and started playing better. They were led by Delia Brannan who came off the mound to make a couple of important outs and Anna Puleo who made a nice diving grab to end the fourth inning.
Callicoon Panty emphasized putting a lot of effort into the little things; on defense, always making sure they got the lead runner out, and on offense, making productive outs, and getting runners over the plate. That discipline from Callicoon kept the Bears from getting any momentum going that could carry them forward.
Defensive standouts Brannan and Puleo also contributed from the plate; Brannan picked up 4 RBI’s on 5 hits, and Puleo drove in 3 runs. Rene Thorton had a strong game for the Bears, hitting a home run and a single to go along with 3 RBI’s, as did Brenda Reinshagen, who played well offensively, tallying a home run and an RBI.
