Catskill Claws Mountain Bike Team riding high in the top 15

WAWARSING –– Earlier this month the New York Interscholastic league held their 3rd event of the season at Lippman Park in Wawarsing. The middle school course was about 2.9 miles and had a total elevation gain of about 290 feet, the High School course was about 3.25 miles in length and had about 330 feet of elevation gain per lap.

The middle school boys team was led by Jasper Sackett. Sackett had a fastest lap time of 25:42 during his first of two laps, and a total time of 53:52 on the middle school course which earned him a 12th place finish in the 6th grade boys category.  Sackett is currently ranked 10th overall in the 6th grade boys category.  

Sylvia Laput led the girls middle school team and earned a 6th place finish in the 6th grade girls category. Her fastest lap time was 41:14 during her first of two laps, and had a total time of 1:26:04 to complete both laps.  Laput is currently ranked 6th place overall for the season in the 6th grade girls category.  

Braedan Clarke led the high school team and earned a 3rd place on the podium in the JV Boys category and 521 points for the Catskill Claws. His fastest lap time was recorded at 17:05 on his fourth and final lap. Clarke’s total time to complete all four laps of the high school course was 1:09:01. Clarke is currently ranked in 7th place overall for the season with a total of 1409 points.     

Grant Brown earned 448 points for our team after earning a 13th place finish in the JV Boys category.  Brown had a fastest lap time of 18:35 during his first lap and a total time of 1:23:40 after completing four laps.  Brown is currently ranked 9th in the state league’s JV Boys category after three events with 1392 points.   

 Aidan Dusenbury-Dalto earned 441 points for an 8th place finish in the Sophomore Boys category.  Dusenbury-Dalto had a fastest lap time of 20:31 on his first lap, and completed his three laps in a total time of 1:03:13.  Dusenbury-Dalto is currently ranked  8th overall for the season in Sophomore boys with 1245 points. 

In total, the high school boys earned  1301 points collectively for our high school team.  

Catskill Claws is currently in 12th place with 4055 points, ahead of the Otsego Composite team with 3940.

After the race, Coach Keith Stephenson shared, “We finally had good weather for a league event, the trails, however, were still quite waterlogged from the rain the day before, which led to some sloppy and slippery trail conditions again.”
