Oneonta – The second New York Interscholastic Cycling League event of 2026 took place Sunday in Oneonta. The High School course was roughly 2.7 miles in length and included about 300 feet of ascending per lap.  The Middle School course was modified for this event, each lap being about 1.7 miles in length with about 220 feet of ascending per lap. The Catskill Claws high school team points leaders in Oneonta were Aidan Dusenbury-Dalto and Grant Brown.  Both finished in 10th & 15th places respectively after three laps.  Dusenbury-Dalto’s best lap time was on his first lap at just 18:34 and his overall time after three laps was 1:00:47.  His 10th place finish earned 467 points for the Catskill Claws team.  Grant Brown also had his best lap time on his first lap completing it in 20:32 and had an overall time after three laps of 1:10:37 which earned 436 for his team.

The Middle School team was led by Jacob Maloney - 7th grade boys, and Landon Leonard- 6th grade boys. Maloney had a fastest lap time on his first lap of the shorter modified middle school course of 14:38 with an overall time of 48:18 which earned him a spot in the top 10 in the 7th grade boys category after three laps.  Landon Leonard’s fastest lap time of 14:56 was on his first lap and finished with an overall time of 46:43 after three laps which also earned him a spot in the top ten at 8th place in the 6th grade boys category.  Jacob Maloney shared his thoughts on the course after the race. “The course was rough but I think the team did great and fought through the hard terrain, amazing weekend!” Landon Leonard said he liked the layout of the course, although it was challenging. He said, “It will make me a better rider.”

After two events the Catskill Claws team is holding a solid 400+ point lead in 12th place with 2562 points over the Finger Lakes Composite team with 2156 points.

Head Coach Keith Stephenson shared, “We had beautiful weather for competing Sunday, this was a significantly more challenging course for all our athletes compared to the first event, having a modified course for the middle school grades in Oneonta made it very accommodating for our younger athletes.”

The next New York Interscholastic Cycling League event will be held at Thacher State Park in Voorheesville, NY on Sunday May 31st.
