MONTICELLO — On Sunday, August 17th, Hope’s Compass joins with Chai on Music for a multi-media program at Temple Sholom, 5 E. Dillon Street, Monticello, NY. Starting at 12:30, visitors are invited to the lower-level exhibit, which is part one of the afternoon series. At 2:00 pm, they can enjoy the klezmer-style performance of Chai on Music.
At the exhibit, guests will see personal artifacts, poetry, prose, artwork, videos, and music recordings. They will read about people from Sullivan County who are perhaps friends, neighbors, or relatives. The exhibit provides an opportunity to add a pushpin to the map indicating where the family lived or currently lives. People may choose to peruse one of over 100 books. They will find out what connects Curious George and Paddington Bear to the theme, Honoring Survivors and Their Rescuers Through the Generations.
The exhibit features images of butterflies, daffodils, and sunflowers. What does each have to do with Honoring Survivors (of the Holocaust)? That information and more are available throughout the room.
Starting at 2:00 pm, on the main level, attendees will sing, clap, and join along with Chai on Music as they engage the audience through a medley of English and Yiddish songs. Richie Chiger, Leon Hilfstein, Lori Schneider, Anastasia Solberg, Dale DiMarco, and a surprise musical guest will have the audience asking for an encore.
These programs are made possible through grants and donations. The suggested donation of $15 in support of the exhibit and musicians can be made at the door or by donating via check to Temple Sholom, as they keep their doors open for community events like these. Reservations can also be made by calling Temple Sholom at (845) 794-8731. A QR code is also available at www.HopesCompass.org.
The August 17th program is part of a series that has been made possible through the collaboration of many individuals and organizations. Thank you to: Hope’s Compass Fund, a component of The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, cfosny.org, Sullivan 180’s Community Development grant program.
