NARROWSBURG—On Sunday, November 9 at 3 p.m. the Hall and Powers Duo will be performing classical, contemporary and jazz music on organ and piano, featuring Bill Powers on saxophone, at the First Presbyterian Church of Liberty, 81 South Main Street. This recital is free, with a special offering to benefit the restoration of the church’s historic stained-glass windows.
The recital will feature saxophonist Bill Powers performing music by Vaughan Williams Strauss and others, with Dr. Jonathan B, Hall on piano and organ, with a special appearance by Mary Lee Farris, soprano.
Bill Powers has been performing since childhood and studied at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he also achieved a master’s degree in Philanthropic Studies. Bill is an expert at virtually all the woodwind instruments with the saxophone as his particular favorite.
Jonathan B. Hall holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English literature, and he earned the MMus at Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University, then the Doctor of Music at the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University. He is also a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists and a Fellow of Trinity College, London. He is active in the American Guild of Organists and contributes articles and reviews to The American Organist. He recently retired from teaching at the Steinhardt School of New York University and directing the musical programs at First Presbyterian Goshen in Goshen.
Mary Lee Farris has a long history in music performance after receiving a Master in Vocal Performance from the Louisville School of Music. She has performed as soloist with Orchestras across the country and principal roles with the San Francisco Opera, Aspen Music Festival, Syracuse Opera, and others, including as a soloist with the New York City Opera. She also spent two seasons as Principal Dramatic Soprano at the Opera Theater of Coburg, Germany. She continues to teach voice and piano privately.
