LIBERTY — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Sullivan County, in partnership with Smart Energy Choices – Mid-Hudson, will host a D.I.Y. Energy Savings Session on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Liberty Public Library, 189 North Main St., Liberty, NY 12754.  The free, family-friendly session will provide practical information and simple do-it-yourself steps residents can take to reduce energy waste and potentially save money on their utility bills.

Participants will learn about energy-saving measures for the home, including heat pumps, insulation, incentives for home energy upgrades, EmPower+ and HEAP. The session will also demonstrate straightforward actions homeowners and renters can take to improve energy efficiency.

Those who register in advance can reserve a free energy savings kit valued at $45. Each kit includes materials designed to help participants put energy-saving strategies into practice, including: two LED light bulbs, weatherstripping, door sweep, power strip, window insulation foam tape for windows and doors, and foam outlet and switch gaskets.

The event is designed to make energy efficiency accessible and practical, giving residents tools they can use immediately in their homes. This program is free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged. To register, find the calendar link at www.libertypubliclibrary.org.  Residents can also register by calling (845) 292-6180, or (845)292-6070.
