Day two of track & field ‘quals: Next stop States!

GOSHEN– After last week’s two-day state pre-qualification meet at Monroe-Woodbury High School many track & field athletes from Sullivan County are one step closer to states. Teams from Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster County braved the 80 plus degree temperatures with competitors and families trying their best to find some relief in the shade. 

Sullivan West’s Alison McCarthy finished 2nd in the girls 400m hurdles, and her teammate Grace Halloran ran a 2:18 in the girls 800m. Tri-Valley’s Dakota Evans finished first in the Class C discuss throw qualifier, finishing with a distance of 101-01. 

TV’s girls 4x800 relay team of Angela Chevalier, Anna Furman, Em Richardson, and Sophia Richardson ran a time 9:42 in the relay qualifier. Monticello will also send a relay team to states. Their 4x100 relay team of Kalene Harris, Gabriela Almonte, Tiara Harris and Kristen Harris finished qualified with a combined time of 50.87.

 Fallsburg’s Nazir Lopez ran a lightning-fast time of 11.45 in the prelims of the boys 100m for Class C. Lopez along with his teammate Donovan Hart, who ran a 11.49 have both qualified for states. 

Zoey Ketcham and Jordyn Wall-Carty finished first and third, respectively in the pre-lims of the Class C hurdles for the Comets. All qualifying athletes will compete at States this Friday, June 13 at 1:00 and Saturday, June14 at 9 am at Middletown High School.
