Democratic due diligence

Posted

As a 100 percent supporter of open and fair elections, this newspaper could not be more elated by the prolific and exuberant response to all that is related to this year’s elections. Over the past month and a half, the Sullivan County Democrat has received dozens of letters pertaining to their choice of candidate and thoughts on propositions – proof in ink that Sullivan County is informed and cares deeply.

We hope that for those who may not be paying as close attention to the political action around them, our readers’ magnetic attraction to being engaged and outspoken is contagious. We hope that all eligible Sullivan County voters exercise their right to vote in record numbers, and cast their ballot for the candidate and propositions that they feel would most benefit this country and this county.

To those who have already done their democratic due diligence, we thank you kindly. To those who have yet to do so, there is still time! Cast your vote early, or plan on the 5th to get to your local polling location from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

On a more personal note; the Sullivan County Democrat extends our deepest gratitude for each and every candidate who has spent their time, money and energy on the campaign trail all around the county leading up to the big day. There is nothing more democratic than a contested race for public office.

We realize how divisive and nasty national politics have become, and we give our kudos to the local candidates and residents who have kept that vitriol out of their races.

It is not only a masterclass demonstration on how devoted and dignified our candidates are, but it also is a show of a deep respect for the voters they are trying to appeal to.

We respect everyone’s right to have a difference of opinion and advocate for their beliefs as strongly as they are able. We hope our country will work together come November 6 toward common goals. With all that said; stay involved, stay informed and be sure to vote.
