LIVINGSTON MANOR – It was a snowy Thursday evening in Livingston Manor as the Rockland Lady Wolves hosted the Eldred Lady Yellowjackets for a league match up. The energy in the Rockland gymnasium was high, and both teams brought intense, focused play. Unfortunately for Rocklan,d they were unable to secure the home win, losing 39-11 to the Lady Yellowjackets. Eldred AD and acting Head Coach Amanda Zgrodek said, “It was a great win, we needed to reboot this season,” after their win. “We had our head coach resign, so this was a great first start. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get a new head coach soon and keep this momentum going.”
Eldred blasted out of the gate with an early 12-2 lead in the first quarter, with the scoring spread evenly throughout their roster. But Rockland picked up their pace significantly during the second quarter. The Wolves played hard but ultimately couldn’t keep up with Eldred’s defense early on. This mismatch led to multiple Rockland turnovers that allowed Eldred to end the half up 20-7.
Both teams came out looking a little hesitant after halftime, unable to find the basket until the five-minute mark. Eldred eventually found their rhythm and was able to sink a few shots. Rockland was able to respond with a couple of their own, but Eldred still began to pull further away. By the end of the third quarter, Eldred was up 29-9, and Rockland’s fate seemed sealed. Neither team was able to find the basket much on offense in the fourth quarter, but both defenses were on full display. Luckily for Eldred, they were able to take home the 39-11 win.
