ELDRED – The Eldred Yellowjackets hosted the Chapel Field Lions for a boys' basketball game. Eldred came into the matchup 3-3 and certainly had the edge over Chapel Field in their first matchup. Once again, Eldred was able to secure the win on their home court, putting up 39 to Chapel Field’s 30. After the game, Coach Bill Furler said, “This was a big win tonight after we lost the last two games, after being up in the fourth [quarter] both games. It was a great game, and I’m proud of them. We really needed this bounce back. It was a great team win against a tough team.”

Eldred came out in the first half very explosive and energetic in a zone defense. They were able to lock down Chapel Field to just 6 points in the first quarter to Eldred’s 11 points. However, Chapel Field was able to bring it back to a one-point game with a combination of drives to the basket and mid-range jumpers. Eldred held a small 17-14 lead and went into halftime holding their breath.

Eldred came out of the locker with a fire lit under them. With incredibly quick and athletic play, Eldred was able to keep the pressure on Chapel Field and held them to just two points the entire quarter. Eldred didn’t just come to play defense either; they were able to more than double their halftime score and went into the final quarter up 36-16. Trai Kaufmann and Eli Gonzalez of the Yellowjackets were instrumental in this phenomenal quarter for Eldred. The final quarter favored Chapel Field, but they weren’t able to crawl out of the hole the third quarter put them in. Eldred closed out the game with a 39-30 home court win.
