Ellenville Regional Hospital’s Swift Response Saves Heart Attack Patient

Ellenville, NY – During Heart Health Month, Ellenville Regional Hospital is highlighting the importance of rapid emergency response and expert cardiac care. A recent case serves as a powerful reminder of why quick action saves lives.

Jessica arrived at Ellenville Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department experiencing chest and shoulder pain— symptoms that can often be mistaken for less critical conditions. Shortly after arriving to the hospital Jessica had a heart attack. Thankfully, the Ellenville Regional Hospital Emergency Department acted fast, immediately transporting Jessica to Vassar on a helicopter.

“When I got to the hospital, they took me right back, and thankfully they did because I was only there for a couple of minutes before I flatlined. Their rapid response is the reason I’m still alive. The quality of the doctors and nurses who brought me back and managed to get a helicopter to transport me to Vassar so I could have two stents put in truly saved my life.” states Jessica.

Thanks to this fast and decisive care, Jessica survived and is now returning to Ellenville Regional Hospital for cardiac rehabilitation, an essential step in recovery after a heart attack. Our cardiac rehab program provides expert guidance on exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle changes to support heart health and reduce future risks.

“The people there are amazing—they’re so nice, helpful, and encouraging. After the heart attack, I had no energy. It’s crazy to think how much a heart attack takes out of you. Staying awake for just an hour was a challenge. But after two months of cardiac rehab at Ellenville Regional Hospital, my energy levels are about 85% better.”

During Heart Health Month, Ellenville Regional Hospital encourages the community to learn the warning signs of a heart attack—such as chest pain, shortness of breath, and discomfort in the arms, neck, jaw, or back. When in doubt, call 911 immediately.
