LIBERTY –– John S. Burke Catholic varsity girls’ tennis team visited a short-handed Liberty squad on Monday, taking the three matches in straight sets.

Nola English bested Allison Diaz Lopez, 6-0, 6-0. And Anna Farya beat Angele Osorio Ramirez, 6-0, 6-1. In a doubles match, Burke’s Caitlin Walsh and Sarah Eckert won over Liberty 9th graders Jasmine Garcia Reyes and Sara Liddle.

Several Liberty players were unable to participate due to insufficient practice attendance. Both coaches opted to play exhibition games in place of official games to allow for valuable practice time. One of these matches featured Liberty’s # 1 player last year Allison Vasko playing against Burke’s Riley McLean.

Liberty coach Molusky explained, “We want to make sure these girls get to experience varsity match play tennis. It’s part of high school sport’s purpose to expose them to a broader field of play and competition.”

Both teams enjoyed the coach’s decision and played their exhibition games on the sunny Liberty courts in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
