FORESTBURGH – Stop the presses! Disney’s Newsies, the high-energy, crowd-pleasing musical that took Broadway by storm, opens at the Forestburgh Playhouse on July 29 and runs through August 10. Performances are Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8pm, Wednesdays at 2pm, and Sundays at 3pm.

Based on the true story of the 1899 Newsboys Strike in NYC, Newsies follows a fearless group of young dreamers who band together to fight for what’s right – armed with nothing but their willpower, wit, and a whole lot of newspaper. Featuring a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, and jaw-dropping choreography that will have audiences cheering in the aisles, Newsies is a musical sensation for the whole family.

The Forestburgh Playhouse production is proudly sponsored by Jeff Bank, whose continued support helps bring bold and inspiring stories to life on stage. The entire 2025 Season is made possible by generous sponsorship from the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association, The River Reporter and Silent Maid. And thanks to Van Etten Energy Systems, the Playhouse stays powered up and shining bright all season long!

Directed and Choreographed by [Lauren Haughton Gillis] and with musical direction by Alex Arlotta, this production promises to deliver all the heart, grit, and soaring energy that has made Newsies a modern classic.

“Newsies is more than just a musical – it’s a call to action, a celebration of youth, and a powerful reminder that one voice can make a difference,” said Producer, Franklin Trapp. “Our cast brings unstoppable energy and passion to the stage. This is a show that will leave audiences on their feet.”
