SOUTH BRISTOL–  The Catskill Claws Mountain Bike Team has raced their final course of the season. The New York Interscholastic League hosted the Championship race at Gannett Hill Park in Ontario County near Naples, NY.

This event utilized just one racecourse for both middle school and high school participants. Only the lap count and allotted time were different for each category.  The course was approximately 3.25 miles long and had roughly 350 feet of descending per lap.  Good weather helped make for a great event!

CCMTB boys middle school team was led by Jasper Sackett.  Sackett completed both laps in 1:08:54 which earned him 14th place.  Sackett’s first lap was his fastest at 31:56. After completing all four league events this season, Sackett finished the season in 10th place overall in the 6th grade boys category.

Sylvia Laput led the middle school girls category. Sylvia completed two laps in 1:38:18 which earned her a 7th place finish. Her first lap was her fastest lap, completed in 46:29. Laput finished in 6th place overall in the 6th grade girls category.

The high school team was led by Braedan Clarke in the JV Boys category. Clarke completed all 4 four laps in 1:21:59, which earned him 3rd place on the podium and 569 points for the team.  Clarke had his fastest lap time during his first lap at 19:44 and finished 7th overall in the state in the JV Boys category!

Following closely behind Clarke, was Grant Brown. Brown completed all 4 four laps in 1:32:23, earning a 10th place finish and 508 points for CCMTB high school team.  He finished in 10th place overall in the state in the JV Boys category.

Aidan Dusenbury-Dalto completed all 3 laps in the Sophomore boys category 1:11:12, which earned him a 7th place finish and 492 points for the high school team.  Dusenbury-Dalto had his fastest lap time during his first lap at 22:20 and finished in 6th place overall in the state in the Sophomore Boys category.

Collectively the three athletes earned a total of 1569 points for their team. After four league events this season,  CCMTB team finished in 12th place with 5624 points ahead of the Rochester Black Bears Composite with 5457 in 13th place.

“The biggest challenge this season was the weather,”said Coach Keith Stephenson. “With the first event being canceled due to the weather, our student athletes still gave it their all and endured the remaining events in spite of the wet weather and challenging trail conditions. On the brighter side, we’re looking forward to including 5th grade girls and boys when we start again this fall for the Spring season next year.”
