JEFFERSONVILLE – Auxiliary President, Kathy Lutz, Past State Auxiliary President and Secretary, Sandra Flynn, from H. Russell Kenyon Auxiliary to VFW Post 5808, Auxiliary President Amber Sullivan, and Post Commander Lauren Roman from the Allan Milk Memorial VFW Post 7276 and Auxiliary, presented a Flag Day Program to fifty-eight kindergarten children at the Jeffersonville Elementary School on June 15.

The group presented information about the origin of the American Flag, the reason why we have 13 stripes and 50 stars, some flag etiquette, and a story was read about Flag Day by Sandra Flynn. All the students, teachers and guests stood and said the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Students were given a certificate saying, “I Learned To Say The Pledge of Allegiance,” a coloring page showing students saying the Pledge of Allegiance, a page about Flag etiquette, information about the Buddy Poppy® and Flanders Field.  Each one also received an American Flag, a 250th Anniversary Flag and a Buddy Poppy® to take home.

The H. Russell Kenyon Auxiliary has been doing a Flag Day Program for the kindergarten students at the former Delaware Valley Central School and the Jeffersonville-Youngsville Central School since the 1950’s and the Allen Milk Memorial Auxiliary has joined in assisting with the program in recent years. The Auxiliary was pleased to have Post 7276 Commander Lauren Roman join them this year.
