Sullivan County, NY – The Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA) is thrilled to announce the launch of an exciting new geocaching experience along the Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail. Beginning, February 7th, geocachers can embark on the geo trail, blending outdoor adventure with the rich cultural history of the Woodstock era.
Geocaching is an interactive, GPS-based treasure-hunting activity where participants navigate to designated coordinates to find hidden caches. As they progress along the geo trail, they will uncover secret codes that ultimately lead to a grand finale – a collectible geocoin, a prized reward among geocachers.
Sixteen of the nearly 80 doves on the Dove Trail are part of this geocaching adventure, with select doves containing a secret code. To complete the trail and unlock the final treasure chest, participants must gather these codes and make their way to the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association. Upon arriving at the SCVA Visitors Center at the end of the trail (open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM), successful geocachers will be awarded their geocoin in person. For those who complete the trail after hours, a QR code on the Visitors Center window provides access to the virtual treasure box, and their geocoin will be mailed to them.
The Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail was created to honor the legendary 1969 Woodstock Festival and the local artists who designed each unique dove. Initially launched with 50 doves in 2019, the trail has now grown to nearly 80, each telling its own story of peace, love, and music that continues to inspire visitors today. Many of the doves are located at local businesses, offering geocachers an opportunity to explore the attractions, shops, and dining experiences that make the Sullivan Catskills a premier destination.
To participate in the geo trail, geocachers can visit the SCVA website to download their official passport, which will help guide them along the route and track their progress.
