SULLIVAN COUNTY – The Eldred girls varsity soccer team became the Class D Champs for the first time since 2018 with their win over Chapel Field earlier this month. After the Ellenville Blue Devils twice last week: 9-0, 10-0 and Seward 2-0. The Yellowjackets boast a season record of 11-2-1 with a league record of 2-0. Coach Kevin Moscatiello shared his thoughts with the Democrat on the season. “I am extremely proud and happy with our performance this season. We won our section which hasn’t been done for a while. We have a hard-working and positive group of girls. The team hit a stride and got better as the season went on. Every night they find another way to win when we’re not at our best, it’s a true team effort.” The Yellowjackets are scheduled to play the winner of the Section 2 bracket on November 8, at Stillwater High School in Stillwater, NY.
The Rockland Wolves went to the first round of Regionals last year but came up short. The Wolves are scheduled to go up against the Burke Catholic Eagles tomorrow at 2 pm.
The Sullivan West Bulldogs (6-2-1 overall, 3-0 in league play) were scheduled to play the Onteora Eagles yesterday at 2 pm. The Bulldogs had homefield advantage in the section quarterfinal. Be sure to check Friday’s sports section for game results.
The winner of the Eagles vs Bulldogs match will go on to play Mount Academy tomorrow at 3pm.
“We currently are 10-4-1 overall,” said Tri-Valley’s coach Kayla Connolly. “During the season, we had some injury setbacks. However, all the girls have stepped up and have made the team stronger. Last year, we hosted Rhinebeck in the sectional semi-final and lost. The girls may have faced defeat last year, but this season, they’re ready to redeem themselves and go for the win.” The Bears are scheduled to play the Rhinebeck Hawks on Wednesday at 2 pm at home.
