LIBERTY – On Sunday, July 12 at 4:00 pm, the public is invited to join a Guided History Hike along the new Walnut Mountain House History Trail at Walnut Mountain Park in Liberty, NY. This free outing is a 60-minute (approx. 1 mile) round-trip hike along wide, gently uphill carriage roads. The trip leaders are Ruth Huggler and Lisa Lyons, the History Trail’s research team, with support from Town of Liberty, Parks & Recreation.
Participants will take a trip back in time to 1886-87 when the Walnut Mountain House (WMH) was built at the summit of Walnut Mountain. The walk to its remaining foundation is suitable for many ability levels. The new trail includes six interpretive panels which were funded in part by a Municipal Partnership Grant from Sullivan 180. Wooden benches contributed by the Liberty Central School Interact Club invite hikers to pause for a break along the way.
Meet at the baseball field parking area, Walnut Mountain Rd (off Rt 55), Liberty. The hike starts promptly at 4:00 pm. This history hike is not for dogs. Thanks for understanding. Please register in advance as shown below to help them prepare.
Register by Sunday, July 12 at 12 PM, by calling Lisa at Morgan Outdoors (845) 693-4181 or in person at Morgan Outdoors, 234 Main Street, Hurleyville, NY.
