News from the Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County group! Join them to learn more about using local, in-season produce from our Farmers Markets to your dinner table. Come out and sample food prepared in class together. Each class will focus on a specific healthy eating theme or cooking technique and include a recipe to demonstrate the concept. If eligible, you can earn $40 in FreshRx bucks to use on fruits and vegetables at participating Sullivan and Orange County Farmer’s Markets! This is a free event with the first event on Tuesday, May 20 from 1-2:30pm at the CCESC in their teaching kitchen. 

The AACA Catskill Region Car Show is holding a car show for antique, classic and custom vehicles on Sunday, June 1 at the Rock Hill Fire House. Gates open at 9am with car registration from 9-11am. Show cars must be in place by 11am. Cost day of the show: $15 for cars, spectators $3 or 2 for $5 and kids (with an adult) for free. Breakfast, lunch, and beverages by the Rock Hill Fire Department. A DJ will provide music with basket raffles, 50/50, and trophies. Profits from the show to help fund BOCES Scholarship programs and local food banks. The First Presbyterian Church in Jeffersonville is hosting a Penny Social at the Jeffersonville Fire Department (located at 4903 NY-52)on Saturday, June 7 at 11am with calling at 12:30pm. Admission is $1 and includes 2 sheets of tickets and a drink and dessert. Additional food and beverages will be available for purchase. Door prizes, Special tables and 50/50. Proceeds will benefit the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville Food Pantry.

Everybody is tired of the rain, warmer and sunny weather will be here soon! Please remember that when you walk your dogs in the scorching sun the pavement will be too hot for their tender paws. They sweat through their paws and they cannot cool down because their paws are burning. Missing their walk will not hurt them. Wait until the sun goes down and both of you will enjoy a nice stroll.

Reminder: The JEMS is hosting a Free Outdoor Movie, “The Lion King,” at The Backyard Park located at 21 Lovett Lane, Jeffersonville on Friday, June 6 with Butch’s Petting Zoo, and a face painter before the movie! Gates open at 6:30pm and the movie will start at dusk. Their concession stand will be open and kids will get a $1 off Lion King coupon for some fresh popcorn, hot dogs, and other goodies!
