And, just like that, November is here and we change our focus from witches and pumpkins to elections and the beginning of our country. As we prepare for celebrating with our family and friends, remember those less fortunate and consider lending a helping hand by donating or delivering food or helping out at a local food pantry or soup kitchen. Contact the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless, and they can assist you in finding a place or program in need of your services.
Congratulations to the Monticello Rotary for an outstanding job on this years “Share the Warmth” Coat Drive which supplied over 10 large bags of coats for those in need. Distribution of the coats will be handled by The United Way of Sullivan County.
And, don’t forget the Monticello Rotary Thanksgiving Food Drive on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Ted Strobele Recreation Center on Jefferson Street, Monticello from 9am – 1pm. Non-perishable items will be accepted. Frozen turkey and ham will also be collected (think of all those free turkey points your have), and we will also accept pet foods.
The regular food will be equally distributed between United Way of Sullivan County and The Federation for the Homeless for final distribution. Watch for those sales now and purchase a little extra to make someone in need smile for Thanksgiving this year.
Emily Pine, a Junior at Monticello High School, took home the win for the title of Monti Idol. She wowed the audience and obviously the judges singing “In My Dreams,” from Anastasia, “All That Matters,” from Finding Neverland, and “In My Own Little Corner,” from Rodger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Emily is part of the Aspiring Young Musicians (AYM) Program from Nesin Cultural Arts where she studies under the tutelage of Lori Orestano-James. (Yeah – I am smiling and proud of her!)
Monti High’s colors were shining brightly as NYS Budget Director Blake Washington, Former School District Superintendent Emma C. Chase (posthumously), and County Historian John Conway were inducted into the MCSD Hall of Distinction. Panther Pride Always!
The Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce will be holding its 50th Anniversary Gala at the Club and Villa Roma on November 14, 2024 at 5:30 PM as special honorary recognition will be bestowed on the first Chamber President, Robert (Bob) Ernst. Find out more on the Chamber Website at www.CATSKILLS.com.
