Liberty’s Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for New Athletic Field

LIBERTY – The Liberty Central School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newly remodeled athletic field. In front of students, staff, and dignitaries, Liberty Superintendent Patrick Sullivan delivered opening remarks, thanking the Board of Education members and local officials for their support. “Today is the first step toward our future,” he said with pride as he addressed the students. “This track and field is not just a place where our student-athletes compete or take part in physical education; it’s a symbol that brings us together,” he continued.

Athletic Director Thomas Zehner referenced a quote attributed to the classic 1989 film *Field of Dreams,* stating, “If you build it, they will come.” He added, “I hope in the coming years this will hold true. When we envisioned this facility, that exact idea was at the heart of our mission. We knew that if we invested in a state-of-the-art space for kids, they would step up—and they will.”

Students Jose Moreno Reyes and Audrey Krum also shared their thoughts during the ceremony. Senior Audrey Krum, captain of the girls’ varsity soccer and track teams, expressed her gratitude: “I am so thankful to be able to finish my high school sports career on the new track.”

As the ceremony concluded, teams eagerly stepped onto the field and immediately began practice, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Liberty’s student-athletes. The new facility not only enhances athletic opportunities but also fosters a sense of community pride and unity among students and staff alike.
