Wayne County, PA – A sap-run is the sweet good-bye of winter! The season to tap maple trees is upon NEPA and the Upper Delaware River Valley National Scenic And Recreation Area. Soon, buckets and taps, tubes and lines, will adorn the maple trees on, commercial settings, family farms and backyard enthusiasts, and these, sugar bushes that they are called, will be transforming the clear sap into the warm hues of maple syrup.
To celebrate this right of spring and one of North America’s unique products in NEPA, the Damascus Manor Community Center located at 60 Conklin Hill Road, Damascus, PA 18405 is hosting it’s 5th annual maple syrup harvest pancake breakfast on Saturday March 1 from 8 AM to Noon. All are welcome to come and feast on classic and buckwheat pancakes served with sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, OJ, applesauce, coffee, tea and of course, locally produced maple syrup, all prepared by the center’s kitchen and community volunteers. The cost per person is $14.00 for adults, $12.00 for seniors 65 and up, and $7.00 for children 12 years and under, payable in cash only please. There’s lots of parking available and the community center is handicapped accessible.
Proceeds from the event contribute to the DMCC to help support local services including the Damascus Volunteer Ambulance Corp., the Damascus Food Pantry, and the Equinunk Volunteer Fire Dept.
Guest are welcome to follow a self guided tour to the local sugar bushes for a real tree to table experience. This is sponsored by the NEPA Maple Producers Association.
For information about the tour please contact: Trevor Tochydlowski, Wayne Conservation District, 570-253-0930. For DMCC breakfast information contact: Linda Dexter 570-729-7270.
