As we step into May, the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA) continues to work diligently to promote the region and support the local tourism economy. Spring has brought new energy to our outreach efforts, and we’re excited to share recent highlights and what’s ahead.
This past month, SCVA attended the NYSTIA Tourism Conference in Canandaigua, joining fellow tourism professionals from across New York State. These statewide gatherings offer a vital opportunity to network, learn from industry leaders, and represent the Sullivan Catskills as a standout destination.
From learning about the future of international tourism, to exploring the tourism ecosystem to learning how to fiercely advocate for the tourism industry and all its benefits, these conferences are vital for preparing us as an organization to continue to welcome new visitors, as well as support our local community.
May is shaping up to be a busy and impactful month ahead of the busy tourism season. On May 5th, our Annual Brochure Swap returns to the SCVA parking lot. This long-standing tradition allows regional businesses, attractions, and lodging partners to gather materials, connect with one another, and prepare for the peak season.
It’s a simple but essential way to make sure that visitors—no matter where they stop—can find the best of what the Sullivan Catskills has to offer.
We’re also proud to support the LPGA Grateful Hearts Luncheon, scheduled ahead of the upcoming Grateful Hearts Pro-Am Tournament on May 8th. This free luncheon is open to the public and provides valuable insight into the tournament’s anticipated economic impact—including increased lodging bookings, restaurant traffic, and broader media exposure for the county. It’s an example of how tourism and sporting events intersect to bring lasting benefits to our region.
May is also filled with exciting reasons to explore the Sullivan Catskills. Mother’s Day celebrations will be held at destinations such as The Arnold House, Kenoza Hall, Chatwal Lodge, Callicoon Hills, and other local favorites, where guests can expect elegant brunches, scenic views, and special experiences perfect for honoring mom.
The warmer weather welcomes back local farmers’ markets, perfect for those who seek fresh produce and handmade goods.
Looking a bit ahead, Drag Me to the Catskills will take place June 14–16 at the Forestburgh Playhouse, offering a fabulous weekend of drag entertainment headlined by stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Highlights include comedy shows, a revival of the legendary Wigstock festival, a high-energy after party, and the always-popular Drag Me to Brunch. Visitors can book special packages, including the “Drag Coach Extravaganza” party bus from NYC, and take advantage of discounted rates at The Alder at Resorts World Catskills through June 2nd.
As always, the SCVA remains committed to growing tourism in the Sullivan Catskills through strategic promotion, strong partnerships, and a calendar filled with compelling reasons to visit. Here’s to a vibrant season ahead!
