MEEC Announces Programs for February

MAMAKATING – The Mamakating Environmental Education Center (MEEC) has something for everyone this February. Below are their many nature-oriented events:

 

SnO&W Snowshow Walk & Hike - Sunday, February 1st at 10am

The 6th annual SnO&W Snowshoe Walk & Hike along the historic O&W Rail Trail in Mamakating. Meet at Mamakating Environmental Education Center. Off-street parking available; leashed dogs welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring their own snowshoes or similar gear if they have them. Limited snowshoes and microspikes will be available to rent, free of charge, on a first come, first served basis.

Paint & Sip - Friday, February 6 at 6pm (Register by January 30) 

Spend an evening creating art. Admission: $40.

Winter Wildlife - Sunday, February 8 at 2:30pm

This is a lecture from local expert Walter Jahn about the various local wildlife you can find during winter. Admission: Free.

Squirrely Squirrels – Sunday, February 15 from 1:00 - 2:30pm

Learn fun facts about the 7 species of squirrels that live in New York and make a squirrel track plate to take home. Take a guided walk around the grounds at MEEC to look for signs of squirrel activity. Admission: $5, Recommended for all ages. If you are going on the walk, wear clothing and boots appropriate for the winter weather.

Tracks and Other Signs of Wildlife – Saturday, February 21 from 1:00 - 2:30p

Learn how to identify animal tracks and other signs of animal activity. Make a Track Booklet to take home, then take a walk along the woodland trail at MEEC to search for signs of wildlife activity. Admission: $5.

Recommended for all ages. Wear clothing and boots appropriate for winter weather.
