Monticello Rises to the Occasion at Bagel Festival

It wouldn’t be Monticello without the annual Bagel Festival held on Broadway. This year the long-anticipated event was held on Sunday, August 9 bringing the community together for a fun filled day of food, music and many bagel activities.

More than 150 vendors lined both sides of the street such as local businesses and organizations, food vendors, and artisan shops. Musicians performed on stage as an open mic was available nearby.

Further down the street was the “Any Make Any Model” car show and activities for the children that included a bounce house. Despite the warm weather, crowds turned out throughout the day to take part in all the family friendly festivities.

At noon they held the bagel triathlon where participants were tasked with stacking bagels and rolling them down the street in a fun competition.

Near the conclusion of the festival, Matthew Sush, President and CEO of the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce, thanked those who helped make the event possible and the community members who attended. “Thank you, everybody,” he said. “It was a wonderful, wonderful day. We couldn’t possibly have done it without our community partners, the people that live in Sullivan County and all the people that came to the Bagel Festival.”

Sush said there was an estimated 20,000 people that had attended throughout the day. The annual Bagel Festival once again transformed Monticello into a gathering place for the community through entertainment, joy and of course bagels.
