Onteora Eagles defeat Rockland Wolves

LIVINGSTON MANOR – Excitement was in the air Saturday night under the lights for the newly combined Rockland Wolves football team. The home team’s stands were filled with spectators.

Chris Hubert, athletic director for the Rockland Central School District, greeted those in attendance and gave a few brief words of appreciation to the Coach Ahart Foundation, Roscoe Kiwanis, and the Livingston Manor Rotary Club.

Sophomore student Grace Ward performed the National Anthem before the first kick. Saturday’s game was the first football game this season for the Wolves. They faced a difficult opponent in the Onteora Eagles. The two teams last met in November 2024.

The Eagles took advantage of the home team’s lack of ball control early on. After three possessions, the Eagles ran in their first touchdown of the game from the 23-yard line. On the next play, the Wolves would have possession, and after a quarterback sack behind the line of scrimmage, Onteora recovered the ball at the fifty-yard line- a telling forecast for what was to come.

By halftime, the Eagles had a five-touchdown lead, holding the Wolves to zero points scored at the half. The Eagles carried much of the same dominance through the second half and would take this game on the road with a victory of 60-0 over the Wolves. Rockland is scheduled to play 1-1 Eldred, this Friday in a league contest at 7:00 pm on the Yellowjackets’ home turf.
